The Jury Specialist will aide in the specialized work planning and coordinating of jury activities related to the selection, orientation and empanelment of jurors for the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. The Jury Specialist will use a computerized jury management system; prepare financial and statistical reports and records related to jury services; and performs other duties as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of office support work; prepares letters, correspondence, forms and other documents; receives, sorts, processes, and distributes incoming mail; maintains copies of documents; generates computer reports; performs word processing; operates office equipment; assists with the public; answers the phone lines and directs inquires to the appropriate location.Works with the jury computer system to develop, maintain, and update a master list of potential jurors through a juror database; assists with potential juror’s qualification questionnaires; processes completed qualification questionnaires through the court software program. Assists in compiling a master list of all scheduled jury trials for each judge as well as a master jury trial calendar encompassing several years at a time; determines the number of jurors needed based upon the trial calendar; generates a list of jury from the court software program, pulls the applicable jury questionnaires for trial. Prints and mails jury summons in order to notify prospective jurors of service, reviews and approves requests for postponements of service and requests to be excused from jury service; sends notifications to jurors accordingly. Scans in jurors on the dates of trials; sends reminders to potential jurors through the jury software; checks information for accuracy and updates information as needed.Answers phone calls, messages, emails, and questions from jurors and the public; orients jurors to court and trial procedures; answers juror’s questions regarding hours, pay, results of being chosen for jury service. Keeps track of the number of days of each trial and enters’ jurors attendance each day and prints juror check payments. Prepares reimbursement forms to submit to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for reimbursement to the court for jury trials. Keeps track of jury donation program, updates potential non-profits for the program, and provides donation checks to the non-profits as applicable. Must be available toWorks closely with Luzerne County Courts IT departments as well as remotely with the court jury software company.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High school diploma and/or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of clerical experience that include providing customer service in person or via the telephone. Experience in a public agency or legal environment is preferred.
