seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Engineer to lead exciting projects in water and wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with extensive expertise in electrical and instrumentation & control (I&C) systems, including design, evaluation, construction management, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
Based in South-eastern Virginia, this position will support clients across Central and South-eastern Virginia, Eastern North Carolina, and beyond—helping to implement cutting-edge advancements in municipal and commercial utility systems. You’ll work closely with electrical engineering teams across the firm, ensuring innovative and effective solutions for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical and I&C projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Design, size, select, and specify electrical and I&C equipment for water and wastewater projects.
- Conduct technical evaluations for electrical and control system planning and design.
- Prepare and review technical memoranda, proposals, reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Manage and mentor project staff and coordinate with subconsultants.
- Facilitate client meetings, presentations, and project approvals.
- Provide support for field investigations, construction administration, and engineering services.
- Oversee startup and commissioning of new facilities, ensuring successful integration.
- Work closely with clients, utility owners, and project teams—including architects, mechanical engineers, estimators, and designers—to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Develop detailed engineering cost estimates and contribute to project budgeting.
- Travel occasionally for short-duration site visits as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong background in design, construction, and startup of electrical power and I&C systems.
- Experience with low- and medium-voltage power distribution, standby generators, motor control centers, VFDs, PLCs, SCADA systems, and control panels.
- Proficiency in lighting design, P&ID preparation, and electrical/I&C drawings.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley CompactLogix & ControlLogix, Modicon) and HMI software integration.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical building codes.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Active P.E. License.
- 10 years of experience in electrical systems and I&C for water and wastewater facilities.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to work on diverse projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
