Lyman Executive Search has an exciting opportunity for a live in Property Manager/Caretaker Couple with one of our repeat clients! This full-time position is located on the Tower side of beautiful Lake Vermilion. The individual/couple will live on the island in the caretaker’s house during the summer months, while providing occasional oversight and maintenance during the winter months. The ideal individual/couple will be a craft-oriented manager; strong at coordinating services, have a love of the outdoors, an appreciation of creative craftsmanship, and strong boating skills.
The Position:
The chief responsibility is finding, coordinating, and overseeing services required for the upkeep of the property. As such, strong organizational and managerial qualities are required. Additionally, the caretaker(s) will be responsible for weekly cleaning, yard work, and maintenance; start-up and winterization of the houses; managing and overseeing major projects performed by outside vendors; and boat transportation for family members when necessary.
The ideal caretaker(s) will be a craft oriented manager; have a love of the outdoors and natural beauty, an appreciation of creative craftsmanship, strong boating skills, some knowledge and background in basic building trades, and comfort with operating power tools. This is a special place in a very unique part of Minnesota. Candidates must be self-starters who can see what needs to be done to maintain the homes and the surrounding area in a first-class manner and provide excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and perform housekeeping duties. This includes but is not limited to weekly house cleaning (spring cleaning); laundry; and trash and recycling removal from the island weekly.
- Perform spring start-up and fall shut down. This includes activating and winterizing all systems, installation and storage of household furniture and maintenance equipment, on-site and off-site boat storage, disinfecting of water tower holding tank, and coordination of dock and lift installation and removal.
- Maintain (or manage the maintenance of) landscaping. This may include lawn and trail maintenance, flower and vegetable garden maintenance and watering, brush and tree monitoring and maintenance.
- Perform (or manage the completion of) inspection, maintenance, repair, replacement, and/or installation in the following areas: All structures, including roofs, gutters, and exterior woodwork; water filtration system; stonework; wildfire sprinkling system; security system; boats and motors, including boat licensing and fueling; and other maintenance items as necessary.
- Assist in maintenance of a 15-bed garden including regular watering and occasional weeding.
- Maintain woodshop. This includes inspection of all tools and vehicles, proper storage and organization of all tools, and organization and oversight of storage areas.
- Maintain swimming areas. This includes dock stairs/ladders, beach areas, diving dock, and swim area buoys.
- Obtain supplies and materials to support ongoing use and function of the island. This may include firewood, propane, water, and/or garden plants.
- Collaborate with the family. This may include providing information and recommendations; answering questions; troubleshooting issues; and planning and coordinating large maintenance projects.
Ideal Candidate Profile/Basic Qualifications:
- Perform duties on the island for the duration of the season (approximately May through mid October) and be in residence full-time May – September.
- Maintain complete confidentiality regarding personal information related to the family and property.
- Display strong managerial skills.
- Anticipate needs or issues; be service-oriented.
- Respond to family members with a positive can-do attitude, whether it be in-person or by email and phone.
- Display excellent organizational skills, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
- Commit to safety, especially in operating watercraft and using tools.
- Commit to protecting the natural environment and reducing impact of use.
- CPR certified.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
