BIM Coordinator
Reports to: Chief Technology Officer
Status: Exempt
Position Overview:
The BIM Coordinator is a critical member of the design team, responsible for leading and managing the development of Building Information Modeling (BIM) models and integrated project data. This role oversees the BIM process throughout all project phases, from design to construction, ensuring seamless collaboration, data accuracy, and efficient workflows.
The BIM Coordinator is an advanced position beyond the Sr. BIM Specialist level, requiring a minimum of 10 years of experience in structural modeling and drafting. While the core duties align with those of a Sr. BIM Specialist, the BIM Coordinator takes on a leadership role, managing BIM workflows, resolving coordination issues, and maintaining quality control to support successful project delivery.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of BIM software, including Revit, BIM360, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Structural Expertise: Expert understanding of structural design principles, materials, detailing, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in structural modeling or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Revit Programming: Ability to program and develop custom Revit families.
- Leadership Abilities: Proven experience guiding, training, and supervising team members.
- Organization & Communication: Strong organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Problem Solving: Capacity to make independent decisions within established guidelines.
- Collaboration: Team player with a proactive, collaborative mindset.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of building materials, construction methods, and BIM production workflows.
- Mathematical Skills: Mastery of geometric and trigonometric calculations.
Primary Responsibilities:
The following duties reflect core expectations of the role but are not exhaustive. Flexibility and teamwork are essential for project success:
- Perform all tasks associated with the Sr. BIM Specialist role, including accurate structural drafting, modeling, and data extraction.
- Manage and coordinate BIM workflows to meet project goals and timelines.
- Oversee clash detection processes and resolve conflicts in collaboration with project teams.
- Collaborate closely with Project Managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment and communication.
- Assign tasks to junior BIM staff and manage workload distribution in coordination with the Workload Manager.
- Mentor, train, and guide BIM Technicians to build team skills and productivity.
- Manage project content, including sourcing and developing Revit families, in partnership with the BIM Manager.
- Implement and enforce updates to standards, templates, and workflows across project teams.
- Serve as a resource for junior BIM staff and provide backup support in the absence of the BIM Manager.
- Facilitate integration between Revit and analytical tools to ensure data consistency and quality.

The BIM Coordinator works closely under the Project Manager while maintaining a leadership role within the BIM team and project environment.
