Instructional Assistant - General Special Education GENERAL INFORMATION Title : Instructional Assistant - General Special Education Department : Heritage Elementary School Salary Grade : Schedule A or B

FLSA Status : Non-exempt Site / Location : Heritage Elementary School Reports to : Building Administrator Date : 01 / 29 / 2025 POSITION SUMMARY

  • Works collaboratively with special education and classroom teachers, as well as other professionals, to support the academic and social / emotional growth of students, including IEP goals, objectives and / or accommodations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning objectives and standards.
  • Assists with small group learning activities.
  • Provides instructional support during online learning.
  • Assists with the development of students' social / emotional skills.
  • Supports students in learning classroom / school routines and procedures.
  • Provides supervision and a safe environment for students during structured and unstructured times such as lunch, recess, transitions, loading / unloading of buses and any other assigned duties.
  • Maintains a positive, professional, solution-focused demeanor at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Willingness to substitute or perform duties as requested.

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate's Degree; or successfully completed the ParaPro assessment.
  • Some experience in working with children.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • This position requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling,reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs.
