Job Title: Education Volunteer Coordinator

Type: Non-Exempt

Hours: 15-20 hours per week (flexible outside of set classroom time with some remote work available)

Hours include set times spent in classrooms each week including, but not limited to the Blaisdell YMCA (morning and evening), Sagrado Corazon (evening), and Horn Towers apartment complex (afternoon)

Reports To: Executive Director

Salary: $21 - $24/hour

Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is a place-based nonprofit that strives to empower neighbors to assume leadership roles in their own community, while also striving to diversify that leadership to allow for a better mixing and sharing of ideas and cultures. Our main programs include community gardening, business façade revitalization grants, the LNA Education Program which provides high-quality in-person English language and computer basics instruction, as well as several community engagement events and committees. Program Summary:

The Lyndale Education Program serves adult students in the Lyndale and surrounding neighborhoods. The purpose of the program is to provide high-quality English language and Computer Basics instruction and to help students to become more connected to the community.

Position Summary:

The Education Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the Lyndale Education Program by overseeing volunteer engagement, classroom coordination, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations at our education sites. This position focuses on recruiting, training, and supporting a team of dedicated volunteers who assist in English Language and Computer Basics classes. The Education Volunteer Coordinator also manages student registration, data collection, and classroom support to foster a welcoming and effective learning environment for adult learners.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Education Program Volunteers

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Volunteer Coordination and Training 75%

  • Manage volunteer recruitment including recruiting online, in-person, flyering, etc.
  • Coordinate volunteer onboarding following LNA policies, procedures, and the volunteer handbook
  • Coordinate and attend bi-annual volunteer training
  • Manage volunteer communications and appreciation
  • Manage and administer the annual volunteer survey and follow up reporting
  • Coordinate volunteer substitutes, sub for volunteers as needed

Administration and Data Entry 15%

  • Oversee LNA’s Student Information Database (SiD) data collection for all education programs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of entries
  • Assist with creation and implementation of Lyndale Education Program policies and procedures
  • Assist with creation and implementation of new Lyndale Education Program sites and classes as needed
  • Enter all class attendance into MN ABE database tracking student attendance and progress weekly
  • Administer CASAS pre- and post-assessments according to MN and federal guidelines; enter and maintain student and volunteer data in MN ABE database
  • Manage and conduct new student registrations at each site weekly
  • Serve as a classroom floating volunteer at sites weekly after registration and testing is completed
  • Be a staff liaison at each school site to ensure consistent and timely communication
  • Provide data, feedback, communication to ED for grant and consortium reporting, as needed
  • Coordinate annual class observations for the Lyndale Education Program
  • Assist with new instructor onboarding as needed

Student Engagement, Outreach and Retention 5%

  • Assist with ongoing student recruitment efforts and course advertisement in collaboration with LNA staff
  • Manage and administer the annual student satisfaction survey
  • Ensure all students feel welcome and integrated within the classroom community
  • Provide students with resources and referrals as needed
  • Assist with creating and implementing a student retention strategy in partnership with LNA staff

LNA Staff Duties 5%

  • Coordinate, lead, and complete reports for LNA Education team meetings monthly
  • Attend monthly check-in meetings with ED and LNA staff meetings
  • Provide LNA Education update to LNA Board of Directors at least once annually
  • Assist with occasional LNA events and organizational work as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating or supervising volunteers, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing support
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including data entry, tracking attendance, and maintaining accurate records
  • Cultural competency and ability to relate effectively to people of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and learning levels
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to build positive relationships with volunteers, students, and partner organizations
  • Basic proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database systems
  • Spanish or Somali language proficiency strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and an understanding of student-centered, inclusive teaching practices is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and be flexible in a dynamic environment
  • Experience administering or supporting educational assessments (e.g., CASAS) and maintaining confidentiality of student data is a plus
