Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, vision, direction and management of administrative and development aspects of Counseling Services, Student Health, Student Wellness and Health Promotions, and Campus Recreation including leading and facilitating a fully comprehensive and integrated model.
- Promote and maintain a culture of intentional collaboration and integration to foster teamwork and enhance the provision of excellent care, high satisfaction, and proactive education.
- Organize and lead an ongoing strategic planning and assessment process for counseling services, health services, health promotion and campus recreation.
- Assess resource needs and develop budget recommendations; oversee acquisition and use of current technology and capital equipment; monitor physical facilities and oversee the coordination of requests for needed repairs and renovations; obtain and oversee use of grant funding for programs.
- Provide guidance and direction in planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating an effective campus-wide health promotion and educational outreach program to reduce harm associated with alcohol and drug use; and promote campus wide awareness of health and mental health issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, eating disorders, depression and anxiety. This individual will have a significant role in the administration and execution of the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
- Provide guidance and direction for personnel recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation.
- Assess the needs of student population on campus regarding counseling/education on a regular basis; compile and disseminate to appropriate college administrators the results of surveys and/or interviews. Respond to students and parents regarding health and wellness related topics.
- Ensure effective and confidential use of the electronic medical records systems.
- Monitor trends in college health policy and practice regionally and nationally, and integrate best practices and innovative approaches as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with relevant federal and state laws. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for regulatory and statutory requirements, licensing requirements and accreditation standards in the areas of counseling and health services.
- Establish and maintain close collaborations with campus partners and serve on relevant committees within and outside Student Affairs.
- Provide/collaborate with counseling staff to provide psychological services (assessment, psychotherapy, crisis and disaster management) to a diverse clientele whose issues may vary from general developmental concerns to more severe psychological disturbances. Provide referrals when appropriate.
- Provide assessment, short-term treatment and case management to client caseload as necessary.
- Assist with re-enrollment processes and other administrative functions associated with student health and wellbeing including serving on the early intervention team and threat assessment team for the University.
- Provide oversight and compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as accreditation standards through the International Association of Counseling Services specifically related to Counseling Services.
- Construct and assess student learning outcomes for all programs and services.
- Serve as a Responsible Employee for Title IX and Campus Security Authority (CSA) for the Clery Act.
- Serve as a first responder during campus emergencies.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of integrated care and ability to effectively implement and lead a holistic model of student wellness.
- Proven record of success and commitment to working with students from diverse populations.
- Knowledge of local, regional and national issues, trends and best practice standards in primary health care, health promotion and prevention, mental health, health insurance and managed care, as well as national certification and accreditation requirements.
- Current understanding of health care confidentiality, risk management, legal practices and operations management.
- Experience in budget and personnel management in a healthcare or educational environment.
- Experience with electronic health records systems.
- Genuine appreciation for student development theory and a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to student health and wellness.
- Demonstrated excellent leadership, personnel management, communication, interpersonal and public speaking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and/or direct experience in a college or university setting.
- Experience leading organizational change.

- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, Health Administration, Public or Community Health, Business or Public Administration or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education (Doctorate preferred).
- Preference given to candidates with current licensure as a mental health counselor in the state of Florida or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
- Minimally 7 years of relevant progressive leadership and professional experience that includes demonstrated success in the management and supervision of health, mental health or health promotion services, or a closely related area of health care practice and administration. Professional and administrative experience at an institution of higher education is desired.
- This position may require evening and weekend hours to fulfill responsibilities.
