What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Development Engineer position at Lynntech, Inc.?
Lynntech is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with a background in product design and development to help build our capability to transition technologies into the marketplace. Specifically, we are looking for a candidate with first-hand experience in designing, fabricating, and testing mature electromechanical prototypes and new product designs for applications such as medical devices, industrial equipment, and lab equipment.
Lynntech's engineering team has deep bench strength in developing emerging technologies and building breadboards and first-generation prototypes. We also have experience in maturing those prototypes to increase functionality, performance, and reliability, and we are looking to build on that capability with additional product development and manufacturing knowledge and expertise.
The Product Development Engineer will be involved in the following activities:
- Support the development of system requirement definitions
- Iterate on existing developmental prototype designs to mature toward production-representative prototypes at the component, subassembly, and system level
- Design for x, with challenging and competing factors such as reliability, cost, performance, ruggedization, user/patient safety, and usability
- Develop and lead execution of test plans to rapidly evaluate multiple design solutions
- Analyze test results and modify test plans and/or designs to improve the design outcome
- Integrate component, subassembly, and subsystem designs with a team of engineers
- Participate in design reviews
- Create, update, and maintain design and design decision documentation
Qualifications
Basic qualifications include Master of Engineering or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related engineering disciplines, or bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant work experience, as well as the following demonstrated strengths:
- Broad competency in core functional areas such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, materials, thermodynamics, machine design, controls, and manufacturing and computer aided design
- Familiar with standard industry solutions for electromechanical devices
- Familiar with a variety of fabrication processes using metallic and non-metallic (e.g., plastic, elastomeric, ceramic, composite) materials and how these processes impact part design constraints
- Proven skills in design for manufacturability - component fabrication, joining techniques, design for assembly, tolerance analysis, quality assurance
- Experience with design for injection molding and familiarity with mold design
- Able to simultaneously consider functionality, performance, and manufacturability while developing designs
- Creating, maintaining, and revising parametric 3D CAD data for parts and assemblies
- Creating detailed manufacturing drawings
- Troubleshooting prototypes/root cause analysis
- Vendor assessment and selection
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Master of Engineering or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related engineering disciplines with 3 or more years of experience, or a bachelor's degree with 5 or more years of relevant work experience, as well as the following qualities:
- Medical device development experience
- Able to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Familiar with electromechanical components (motors, valves, pumps, switches, etc.)
- Developing Design controls within a Quality System (ISO 9001 or ISO 13485)
- Full lifecycle product development experience
- Familiar with industry design standards
- Experience with military and/or aerospace applications
- Familiar with standardized testing (g., IEC test standards, MIL-STD-810)
- Design for environmental ruggedization (high and low temperatures, shock, vibration, EMI/EMC, ingress protection)
- Experience in designing for both large- and small-volume manufacturing
- Experience in designing durable equipment as well as disposable accessories and supplies
- Experience leading Design Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (DFMEA)
- Well-versed in Creo for CAD design development
