SALARY RANGE

$17.70 Hourly

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

The job of Campus Monitor is done for the purpose/s of ensuring the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, school personnel, and/or visitors; and assuring student compliance with school and District rules and procedures.

This job reports to DESIGNATED ADMINISTRATOR



REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Essential Functions

Assists with site school activities for the purpose of ensuring a clean and safe learning environment.

Assists in monitoring and directing visitors within the school grounds (e.g. reporting unauthorized visitors; redirecting visitors; reporting persons who may appear to present a safety risk to students; etc.) for the purpose of assuring visitors on campus are authorized and providing a safe campus for students.

Assists in escorting students (e.g. to and from administration office, to and from cafeteria, to and from the bathrooms, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring students reach their destination in a safe manner.

 

Communicates safety and school policies, to and from playground areas, and enforcement procedures to students and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information.

 

Maintains assigned campus area in a safe an orderly condition (e.g. reports hazardous or dangerous situations on school property, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, staff and visitors.

 

Monitors students in assigned areas (e.g. lunch lines, bathrooms, playground, hallways, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring activities are conducted in an environment with minimal risk of injury to students.

 

Monitors and reinforces student behavior expectations and activity during and between assigned periods (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, cafeteria, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.

 

Prevents potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.

 

Refers incidents including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc. to appropriate site personnel for the purpose of ensuring follow-up in accordance with L.U.S.D. school policies rules and regulations.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.



INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE: 
  • Sufficient training and experience, which may be paid or unpaid (volunteer work) to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed within the job description.
  • Any other combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, or abilities, may be considered.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by the American Red Cross or any agency authorized by the American Red Cross REQUIRED UPON OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.
  • Valid First Aid certification issued by the American Red Cross or any agency authorized by the American Red Cross REQUIRED UPON OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.
  • Employees must maintain up-to-date certifications in CPR and First Aid during employment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

SKILLS are required to perform single tasks using existing skills. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: critical observation; assuring student compliance with school and District policies and regulations; determining appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent health and safety policies, practices and procedures; basic methods of individual and group supervision, and basic English written and oral communication.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating effectively with students, staff and parents; relating to students and community in a fair, positive, supportive, firm and consistent manner; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; and displaying tact and courtesy.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 25% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes.
