Mason Valley Swimming Pool is seeking a dedicated and responsible Seasonal Assistant Pool Manager to help oversee the daily operations of our aquatics facility for the 2025 Summer Season!

This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, supervising staff, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for swimmers of all ages. The Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for enforcing pool rules, responding to emergencies, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting patrons with inquiries and concerns. Strong swimming skills, excellent communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise lifeguards and other seasonal staff, ensuring a safe and professional environment.
  • Enforce pool rules and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
  • Assist with scheduling and training of seasonal employees.
  • Maintain pool cleanliness, equipment, and water quality standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service and handle patron concerns.
  • Assist in managing records, including attendance, and incidents
  • Open and close the facility at the beginning and end of the season.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; aquatic experience preferred.
  • One (1) year of aquatic experience
  • Current CPR and Lifeguard certifications required (Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is a plus).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working in deep water and handling emergency situations.

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: Under supervision of the Manager, assists with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the facility to ensure optimum health and safety standards for employees and patrons.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Assist Manager with the oversight and coordination of training, certification, scheduling, and performance of seasonal employees.
  • Monitor activities, provide instructions, and prevent accidents in the aquatics facility.
  • Respond appropriately to swimmers in danger of drowning and to all illness and injury accidents around the entire aquatics facility immediately and appropriately. This includes, but is not limited to performing Lifeguarding skills, First Aid, CPR, and other until arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Record and organize accurate records concerning attendance, accident/incident/injury reports, chlorine readings, and schedules.
  • Handle routine disciplinary issues and communicate with the Pool Manager.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, safety, and security of the facility to include equipment, water chemistry, cleanliness, and general maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as all applicable Lyon County and Mason Valley Pool policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and teach aquatic and safety certification training and aquatic programs sessions, as necessary.
  • Support Manager with maintenance of records of operational facility usage; monitor and maintain inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
  • Collect, count, and itemize swimming pool receipts, including monies for swimming, lessons, and additional facility expenses or earnings.
  • Report any hazardous conditions to the Manager or Board immediately.
  • Assist Manager and Human Resources with the recruiting and selection of seasonal staff.
  • Participate in the opening and closing of the facility at the beginning and end of each season.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism with staff and patrons.
  • Assume full management responsibilities of the aquatics facility in the absence of the Pool Manager.
  • Represent the Mason Valley Swimming Pool with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of aquatic experience; AND supervisory experience preferred; OR an equivalent of education, training, and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Pool equipment and best practices for ensuring the proper maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment.
  • Optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Certification standards in the area of aquatics.
  • Lifeguarding techniques, including First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Skill in:

  • Supervision, discipline, and management of employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with people of all ages.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to provide leadership, command the respect of aquatics staff and guests, and be able to delegate duties when needed.
  • Records maintenance.
  • Program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Data collection and organization.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work environment includes exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, and occasionally to toxic or caustic chemicals. The work day may include frequent contact with members of the public, periodic contact with angry and/or upset individuals, frequent interruptions of planned work activities by telephone calls, pool visitors, employees, and in response to unplanned events. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud. Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day may be required. Lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds or may be required.

While performing duties of a lifeguard, the employee will need the strength, stamina, and coordination to frequently swim, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time. Regular use of hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional climbing or balancing. Occasionally lifting and/or moving over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing and speech to communication in person and over the telephone.
