Mason Valley Swim Center in Yerington is currently accepting applications for the position of Pool Manager during the months of March through mid-September.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the day-to-day operations of the swim center, scheduling of lifeguards and activities, and safety assuredness for staff and patrons. Please read attached job description for full scope of duties.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • AND three (3) years of aquatic experience;
  • AND one (1) year supervisory experience;
  • OR an equivalent of education, training, and experience.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) – required within sixty (60) days of hire
  • CPR/First Aid Certification - preferred
  • Lifeguard Certification - preferred

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: This is an at-will, seasonal position. It serves as the chief executive of the Mason Valley Swimming Pool District (MVSPD) and reports directly to the MVSPD’s Board of Trustees. Under the direction of the Board, this position is responsible for all aspects of MVSPD operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Assists the Board in developing policies and protocols for MVSPD; ensures that the MVSPD operates in accordance with the Board’s general direction; manages all day-to-day activities.
  • Analyzes information, weighs potential options, and prepares well-supported recommendations to the Board; anticipates and promptly reports problems to the Board; identifies and recommends solutions.
  • Prepares for, oversees, and implements the opening of the pool at the beginning of the season and closing of the pool at the end of the season.
  • Oversees all personnel matters, including hiring, scheduling, discipline, and performance management. Works with Human Resources to develop appropriate job descriptions and expectations.
  • Administers all business operations of the MVSPD, including event schedules, inventory, vendor relationships, budget management, management of cash receipts;, and other administrative work flows. Implements purchasing controls and provides applicable support to Board for cash disbursement approvals.
  • Oversees the maintenance, safety (e.g. OSHA), and security of the pool facility; this includes pool equipment, pool water chemistry, cleanliness, general maintenance, and general security.
  • Ensures the pool facility and the employees of the MVSPD possess all required licenses and certifications.
  • Ensures the effective delivery of high-quality services to the public, and ensures that the environment at the pool facility is in all respects conducive to such service delivery.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs all of the duties of a lifeguard when necessary.
  • Develops, oversees, and participates in swimming lessons and other aquatics programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND three (3) years of aquatic experience; AND one (1) year supervisory experience; OR an equivalent of education, training, and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of managing an aquatic facility.
  • Pool equipment and best practices for ensuring the proper maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment.
  • Swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
  • Pool safety laws, regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Cash receipt management and basic account management
  • Procurement practices and inventory control
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Certification standards in the area of aquatics.
  • Lifeguarding techniques, including First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Skill in:

  • Supervision, discipline, and management of employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with people of all ages.
  • Records maintenance.
  • Program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Data collection and organization.
  • Analyzing/researching potential options, weighing them, and preparing clear recommendations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) – required within sixty (60) days of hire

  • Lifeguard Certification – preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work environment includes exposure to wet, outdoor conditions, and occasionally to toxic or caustic chemicals. The work day may include frequent contact with members of the public, periodic contact with angry and/or upset individuals, frequent interruptions of planned work activities by telephone calls, pool visitors, employees, and in response to unplanned events. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud. Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day may be required. Lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds or may be required. Frequent extreme sun exposure necessitating protection via lotion and/or proper attire.

While performing duties of a lifeguard, the employee will need the strength, stamina, and coordination to frequently swim, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time. Regular use of hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional climbing or balancing. Occasionally lifting and/or moving over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing and speech to communication in person and over the telephone.
