Job purpose

As an AutoCAD Designer in our shipyard, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of various maritime structures, vessels, and components. You will work closely with naval architects, engineers, and project managers to translate conceptual designs and technical specifications into detailed, accurate, and comprehensive AutoCAD drawings.

  • Drafting : Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD software based on project requirements, including ship structures, systems, layouts, and components.
  • Design Development : Collaborate with naval architects and engineers to develop design concepts into precise technical drawings, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Modification and Revision : Review and revise existing drawings as necessary to incorporate design changes, client feedback, or project updates, maintaining accuracy and consistency throughout the design process.
  • Documentation : Generate technical documentation, including assembly drawings, part lists, and documentation packages, to support fabrication, construction, and installation activities in the shipyard.
  • Coordination : Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and quality assurance, to address design-related issues, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Quality Assurance : Conduct thorough quality checks on drawings to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design standards, making necessary adjustments and corrections as needed.
  • Innovation : Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in ship design and CAD software to continuously improve design processes, efficiency, and quality outcomes.
  • Compliance : Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, classification society rules, and industry standards governing ship design, construction, and safety.

    Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and / or humid conditions and to vibration.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 7 years minimum combined experience in a relevant trade with previous repair or new construction management experience.
  • Preferred Education or Experience

    Education based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with the business necessity.

    Qualifications and Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience as an AutoCAD Designer in the maritime industry, with a strong understanding of ship design principles, terminology, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software, including 2D drafting and 3D modeling capabilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with shipyard operations, construction techniques, and classification society regulations (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyd's Register) preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex design challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Experience in a fast pace, production-oriented construction project requiring an intimate knowledge of production processes, requirements, and the drafting process.
