What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Maker position at Lyons Tool & Die Company?
Immediate opening for an experienced Tool & Die Maker with at least four years' experience as a state approved Journeyperson.
Education:
High School or Vocation Technical School Diploma
Essential Job Functions:
- Experience as a progressive Tool and Die Maker.
- Participate in initial design reviews as part of the process of designing and building of dies, tooling & fixtures. This includes strip layouts, assembly layouts and final detail drawings.
- Take the lead on the building of progressive dies. Communicate effectively with CNC and WEDM departments to ensure components meet drawing requirements and are made correctly.
- Communicate with the Design department about any changes or concerns during tool builds.
- Inspects part samples for conformance to customer specifications prior to submitting to the Quality department.
- Maintain simple to complex progressive dies to meet the requirements of the Production Department.
- Prepare and examine progressive dies or tooling components in preparation for the next run of production.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair tools during production runs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols.
- Comply with Company safety procedures and work in a safe manner for both personal safety and safety of others.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Proficiency in operating standard tool room equipment necessary to create precision tools and tool components and fixtures. (I.E., milling machines, surface grinders, lathes, hand tools, etc.).
- Maintain all materials, tools and equipment in good repair and maintain orderly condition of work environment.
- Knowledge of specifications relating to blueprints, quality control plans, and inspection history to identify opportunities to improve tooling and the manufacturing process.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards for quality assurance in tool making and parts inspection.
- Use of both engineering drawings and specifications as well as verbal instruction to produce and assemble progressive dies and components.
- Report current or potential problems or malfunctions that may affect assignment or operation of equipment.
- The ability to provide detailed documentation on tooling issues and component prints.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Perform other work as directed by Tool Room manager.
- Be able to lift moderate loads regularly.
- An understanding of short and long run metal stamping tooling and processes preferred.
