Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Mine Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Mine Maintenance Foreman, Mine Mechanic B does extensive level troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, repairs, and construction work in the mine.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Has a extensive knowledge of most of the following skills: electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, electricity, pipe fitting, machine tool setup and operation, diesel engines and internal combustion engines, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repairs, construction, maintenance, and installation, etc.
- Able to troubleshoot equipment and apply best practices to successfully repair and maintain mining equipment.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Properly communicate the status of assigned job with the relieving shift mechanics and shop supervisors.
- May do painting and carpentry work.
- Assists others of higher classification, and works with and directs the work of others in making repairs to mine machinery.
- Has knowledge of the use of mechanic’s hand tools.
- May interpret construction and installation instructions, read and work from blueprints, and has a working knowledge of shop mathematics.
- May do some routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspections of equipment, etc. under little or no supervision or guidance.
- May work with and assist Mechanic Technician or Electrician on all types of work, but under little or no supervision or guidance – perform such tasks as dismantling and reassembly of machinery, vertical welding, building and installing ordinary sheet metal piping, installing conduit, etc.
- On occasions, as a matter of training, may be given tasks of a skill normally required of a Mechanic or higher classification.
- Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote safe workplace
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 65 pounds regularly, 100 lbs occasionally
- Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary
- Must be able to work at heights as required
- Must pass Lyons Mechanic’s test at a least 70% correct and have demonstrated skills and knowledge commensurate with the Lyons Mechanics Pay Tier “B” levels.
Physical requirement
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse workplace and outside year-round.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Must comply with and wear all PPE.
