A CAD Operator, utilizing specialized Computer-Aided Design software, is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans based on input from engineers, architects, or designers. They translate conceptual sketches, initial design concepts, and specifications into precise visual representations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. Collaborating closely with project teams, they play a critical role in design development, revisions, and the final realization of projects across industries like construction, engineering, and manufacturing.

GENERAL DUTIES
A CAD (Computer-Aided Design) Operator, sometimes called a CAD Technician or Drafter, uses software to create detailed, precise technical drawings and plans for projects. These designs are often used in sectors like architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing.
· Design and Drafting: Creating, editing, and revising digital designs and technical drawings based on sketches, existing drawings, electronic images, design concepts, and verbal instructions.
· Collaboration: Working closely with architects, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand and visualize project requirements.
· Quality Assurance: Ensuring that all designs and drafts adhere to established standards and specifications.
· Documentation: Keeping clear records of all drafts and revisions.
· File Management: Organizing and maintaining a database of all technical drawings and project files.
· Software Mastery: Maintaining proficiency with CAD software and staying updated with any new features or versions.
· Problem Solving: Identifying discrepancies in initial sketches or specifications and suggesting modifications.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES
· Layer Management: Organizing various elements of the design onto different layers, colors, line types, and line weights to keep designs organized.
· Scaling: Adjusting the scale of designs to ensure that different elements fit together cohesively on a project.
· Annotations: Adding notes, dimensions, and labels to provide additional information about specific elements of a design.
· 3D Modeling: For some positions, creating three-dimensional models from two-dimensional designs or converting 2D drafts into 3D visualizations.
· Printing and Plotting: Preparing and printing clear and detailed hard copies of designs as required.
· File Conversions: Converting CAD drawings to different formats as required by other stakeholders or software tools.
· Template Creation: Designing standard templates for common projects to speed up future work.
· Material Estimations: In some roles, assisting with the estimation of materials required based on the designs.
· Redlining: Marking up changes and revisions on existing drafts.
· Symbols and Standards: Using standardized drawing symbols, notations, and abbreviations consistently across designs.
· Site Visits: Occasionally visiting project sites to gather additional information or verify measurements and specifications.
· Renderings: Producing realistic renderings of designs for presentations or client approvals, especially in architectural or product design roles.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
· Minimum of high school education or GED equivalent
· Proficient in using drafting and design software (e.g., Revit, Auto CAD, Navisworks)
· 5 years of experience in HVAC Ductwork, HVAC Piping, and Plumbing.
· Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
· Attention to detail and accuracy in all drafting and design projects.
· Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Proactive mindset and ability to anticipate needs.

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
Employee may be required to do the following: reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and machines; lifting from ground level, waist lever, and/or overhead; carrying objects, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; bending; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; repeating tasks of short duration; following oral and/or written directions; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
