Overview
Fairview Health Services is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist in Core Laboratory at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This is a fulltime evening shift position 3 PM -11PM, 3/6 weekends, with occasional holidays.
The University of Minnesota Medical Center Laboratories is a large full-service hospital laboratory. This laboratory cares for critical adult inpatients and serves as a central receiving laboratory for the entire MHealth Fairview system. This medical technologist position will work in the East Bank Core Laboratory which includes the departments of chemistry, blood gases, urinalysis, clinical hematology, coagulation, and will receive and test samples from inpatients, system hospitals, and clinics, as well as outside patient customers. The East Core team consists of 160 employees.
Responsibilities/Job Description
The MLS/MT functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A MLS/MT performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS/MT correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS/MT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS/MT participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.
Job expectations include: following established guidelines to obtain specimens and prioritize work, recognizing problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them, evaluating testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention, demonstrating understanding of and commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs, orienting and mentoring new employees and students, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88.
- Possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized. Certification is required within 1 year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.
- Good phlebotomy skills
