Overview
The UMMC Discharge Pharmacy Internship Program offer outstanding experience to expose students to a variety of areas within the pharmacy, while developing a strong skillset of clinical knowledge and understanding of pharmacy operations. During summer hours, interns will be given the opportunity to rotate through additional outstanding areas including solid organ transplant, and other departments.
Responsibilities/Job Description
This position is based in a retail/discharge pharmacy, helping interns to develop effective interpersonal skills as they coordinate patients care with residents, physicians, and other member of the University healthcare team. Primary intern responsibilities include order entry, dispensing, and patient counseling. Intern will become familiar with a wide array of medication that University patients use to treat sophisticate disease states through patient counseling and presentation, of which intern will have the opportunity to both attend and lead.
Intern will be encouraged to work 32 to 40 hours per week during the summer/winter break (except for IPPEs) and at least 3 shifts per pay period during the academic calendar year. Shifts during the school year typically include one or two 8 hours weekend shifts and one or two 4 to 6 hours weekday shifts per a 2-week pay period. Additional hours may be available depending on the intern’s availability.
Qualifications
Enrollment in fully accredited College of Pharmacy Doctorate of Pharmacy degree program. Succesful completion of 1st academic year and progression into 2nd academic year. This position will continue longitudinally through 4th academic year and graduation.
