Overview
Fairview Health Services is hiring a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.
We are offering up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus along with a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000!
As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.
Our Surg techs work as a part of a strong team and this role will handle CV cases so CV expertise is required.
Schedule: This position will be working .9 FTE (72 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift. This position is every weekend (Friday-Sunday, 6 PM - 6:30 AM) - No call or holidays.
- Surgical Techs Shift Differentials: Evening Hours $2.00/hr Night Hours $3.00/hr Weekend Premium $2.00/hr

- No call or holidays for this night shift position!
- The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital and has 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms.
- Our Operating Room is performing an average of 60 cases per day.
- We provide innovative surgical suites, including a hybrid suite and intraoperative MRI suites, for adult patients needing surgical intervention.

Responsibilities/Job Description
As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for:
- Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
- Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
- Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
- Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
- Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
- Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
- Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
- Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
- Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Complete one of the following by hire date:
- Military Surgical Assistant; OR
- LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
- Surgical Technologist training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
- Current OR cardiovascular scrub experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
- AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
- 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience
Other Required Skills:
- Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Desired Skills:
- Demonstrate the ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
- Ability to work well under a team environment.
