JOB DESCRIPTION
This critical role reviews individual, trust, and business tax returns for accuracy and completeness, including state-specific matters, especially RI and MA, resolves errors, and corresponds with taxpayers or staff to obtain any missing information. Communicates effectively with staff to help build the staff skill set.
Submitting tax forms on behalf of clients to pay the appropriate amount of tax and maximize the client’s tax benefits
including knowledge and application of tax credits, deductions, and current legislation. Interviewing clients about their income and expenses, gathering account details, and acting as a liaison between clients and the IRS.
Assisting in IRS and state audits. Gathering information and explaining options for best practice to clients. Reviewing
quarterly and annual tax compliance returns. Reviewing federal and state income tax returns. Ensuring that tax returns are filed in accordance with industry best practices, IRS Circular 230, IRS publication 17, and firm policies.
As a key member of our tax team, the reviewer will utilize their technical skills and educational background and apply
their expertise to locate discrepancies, correct them, and provide positive feedback to staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direction and feedback to staff on engagement deliverables, such as tax returns, work papers, etc., and complete technical reviews as a member of the final engagement review team to ensure quality control standards are met.
Demonstrate proficient technical skills for handling client responsibilities and communication.
Review simple to complex tax returns for individuals, trusts, and businesses.
Service clients directly, as necessary, to complete returns.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent field
- CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA) or Master’s degree in Taxation are required
- A current/valid PTIN account is taken into consideration but not required
- 8 years of technical tax experience in public accounting or related fields, 3 years in a managerial role
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of the organization, both
internally and externally
- Demonstrate strong operational and project management skills
- Proficient use of applicable technology and related tax software
