Job Description – Medication Prior Authorizations

Reports to- Patient Access Manager
Summary/Objective
Responsible for obtaining insurance authorization for medications prescribed by our medical providers.
Work Environment
This job operates in a medical office facility and/or remote. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Essential Functions
Polite, sensitive to people, compassionate, ethical conduct, annunciation and good communication skills proficiency which include read, write, active listening skills.
Processes all phases of pre-authorization to include preparing records and updates regarding patient status.
Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility for medications that require pre-authorization.
Acts as a liaison between insurance provider, patient and Medical Assistant
Communicates and answers all insurance-related questions regarding the medication/authorization for patients and staff.
Documents all insurance related pre-authorization information on patient’s chart.
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, sit, bend or stand, walking as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience
Familiar with medical terminology, medical insurance, co-pays, and deductibles.
