Job Description – Switchboard Operator
Classification FSLA - Non-Exempt - hourly

Reports to: Patient Access Manager
Summary/Objective
Operates medical facility switchboard, provides routine information, and directs calls to appropriate department and personnel.
Work Environment
This job operates in a medical office facility. This role routinely uses telephone equipment, copier, computer, time clock, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Essential Functions
Polite, sensitive to people, compassionate, ethical conduct, annunciation, communication, proficiency which include read, write and active listening skills.
Answer incoming calls on multi-line telephone system, screens and direct telephone calls in a professional manner. Handles transfer of phone calls. Checks appointment times or cancels appointments if sole reason for call.
Greet visitors as they arrive and direct to appropriate person.
Receive, sort, open and distribute mail, incoming packages, deliveries and parcels daily. Responsible to alert staff of packages and track if packages are getting to the right place. Some packages are of a time and temperature sensitive nature and must be picked up asap by employee or department.
Responsible for completing shipping label and envelopes.
Interaction with drug reps, monitors drug samples (checking monthly for expired medications), assists with appropriate paperwork, along monitor inter action between Doctor and drug rep.
Additional administrative duties as assigned
Physical Demands
This position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, sitting for extended periods of time.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full or part-time position with the switchboard being active 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or as assigned.
