Job DescriptionM&J is currently seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee the construction of a new federal agency building in Maryland. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of environmental health and safety to ensure the project complies with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Overview
The EHS Manager serves as the onsite M&J representative Environmental, Health and Safety oversight of a large greenfield project in support of a Federal construction project in the Washington DC area. The role will oversee and implement effective EHS plans and policies, and be responsible for implementation of those plans.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive EHS plans, policies, and procedures specific to the construction of the federal building.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other governing bodies.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead safety training sessions and workshops for on-site personnel, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Investigate and document any accidents, incidents, or near-misses, providing recommendations for future prevention.
- Collaborate with project management teams, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure the integration of EHS standards into all phases of construction.
- Monitor environmental impacts, including waste management, pollution control, and sustainability practices, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Prepare and submit EHS reports, documentation, and permits required by federal and state agencies.
Provide guidance on occupational health issues, including ergonomics, exposure controls, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance audits, and ensure timely reporting to management and regulatory bodies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety, or a related field, preferred.
- 10 years of experience in EHS management, with a focus on large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, and federal safety standards.
- Proven experience in leading safety initiatives and training programs on construction sites.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple safety-related activities and teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with regulatory agencies and project teams.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
