What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at M&M Manufacturing?
We are seeking a Buyer to support our manufacturing operations located in the Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston areas. Responsible for coordinating the procurement of goods and services as required to support operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized and highly collaborative. Committed to great communication, both as a team member and with suppliers. This position requires analytical and critical thinking. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Inventory support
o Analyze usage patterns, supplier lead-times to optimize safety stock levels over a rolling time horizon to be used for replenishment ordering and inventory management purposes
o Maintain ERP item master for assigned materials to ensure proper safety stock levels, usages, part numbers, descriptions, lot sizes, lead-times and pricing
o Maintain optimal inventory levels by ensuring timely replenishment or assigned materials in support of multiple operating locations
o Identify inventory quantity discrepancies and coordinate with inventory control teams to update ERP inventory records and reconcile discrepancies to sustain accuracy
o Point person and input on inventory requirements based on demand forecasts, consumption patterns and supplier lead-times
· Purchase order processing
o Perform timely, cost-conscious procurement of production / inventory / MRO items.
o Generate purchase orders accurately and timely in support of replenishing location inventories and production needs.
o When applicable, negotiate price, terms and favorable lead-times to maximize impact
o Coordinate with suppliers to confirm order details, lead-times, stocking levels, pricing, delivery dates and obtain order acknowledgments
o Interact with suppliers to follow up on delivery status and expedite as necessary
o Process returns and work with supplier to replace discrepant material in an expedited manner including credits
· Cost savings initiatives and value adding projects
o Create, drive and implement cost savings opportunities for the locations supported
o Support and assist in the creation, evaluation and implementation of cost savings opportunities
o Continuously evaluate and monitor supplier performance to identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
· Order tracking and expediting
o Monitor the status of purchase orders and deliveries to ensure timely receipt of goods or services
o Proactively identify potential delays or discrepancies and take appropriate actions to expedite or resolve
o Communicate with suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding order status updates and delivery schedules
· Communication and collaboration
o Attend daily GEMBA operations meetings, new project kick-off and material planning meetings as required
o Foster positive and productive relationships with both internal and external parties involved in the procurement process
o Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including production, accounts payable, purchasing, receiving/shipping teams
o Provide timely feedback and follow through on status inquiries, information requests, help and support regarding materials and services that are utilized at the site location.
o Support and sometimes lead collaborative supplier meetings as necessary to support operations, team members and management
· Invoice verification and processing
o Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to resolve discrepancies between purchase orders, receipts and invoices to conclude timely and accurately
· Continuous improvement
o Identify process inefficiencies and implement/collaborate to reduce inventory shortage occurrences
o Participate in cross-functional teams and initiatives aimed at optimizing purchase/planning processes
o Provide feedback and suggestions for enhancing vendor relationships, sourcing or purchasing practices
o Contribute to the creation/establishment of processes in support of the planning/materials replenishment functional role
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing/industrial environment with an understanding of manufacturing processes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Supply chain / Purchasing / Inventory planning experience required
Adept at working with a sense of urgency and thinking steps ahead
Detail oriented, analytical, organized and adaptable to changing priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Skilled in process development and documentation a plus
Working experience with MRP and ERP systems or product specific forecasting in a manufacturing environment, QAD is a plus
Possess situational awareness and exercise good judgement
