M&M Recycling is a leading scrap metal recycling facility dedicated to processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals. We are looking for a skilled and experienced Diesel / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic team. This role requires hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery used in the scrap metal and recycling industry.
Job Summary :
As a Diesel / Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of a variety of heavy equipment and machinery used in the recycling process. You will also be expected to collaborate with other mechanics, yard managers, and personnel. Your role is vital to ensuring our equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime, and keeping operations running smoothly. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, specifically in scrap yards or similar environments.
Key Responsibilities :
- Heavy Equipment Maintenance & Repairs :
Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, hydraulic excavators, mobile cranes, balers, shredders, conveyors, and other machinery used in scrap metal processing.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, motors, and control panels.
Perform welding and fabrication tasks for repairs or modifications to equipment.
Ensure all work is done in accordance with safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
Schedule and perform regular preventive maintenance checks on all equipment.
Work closely with the Yard Supervisor, Mechanics and other team members to ensure equipment is functioning properly and downtime is minimized.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, preferably in a scrap metal, recycling, or industrial setting.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work in physically demanding environments.
Welding certification or equivalent preferred.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
