The Shipping and Receiving Clerk plays a vital role in the efficient operation of a warehouse or distribution center. Responsible for properly receiving incoming and pulling and packaging outgoing shipments, this position ensures accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation of all goods.
Responsibilities:
- Receive incoming shipments from suppliers and verify the contents against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Inspect received goods for any damages or discrepancies and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Organize and store received inventory in designated warehouse locations.
- Prepare outgoing shipments by picking, packing, and labeling items according to customer orders and shipping requirements.
- Generate shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
- Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments in the inventory management system.
- Communicate with internal departments to coordinate inventory transfers and resolve any shipment-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulations while handling and storing goods.
- Assist in inventory control tasks, such as cycle counting, stock reconciliation, and maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Keep the warehouse area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, safely and efficiently.
- Participate in periodic inventory audits and assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and shipping systems (e.g., ERP, WMS).
- Proficiency in using material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and obtaining necessary certifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record and document information.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Good communication skills to interact with colleagues, suppliers, and carriers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to lift, carry, and move heavy and bulky items.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, as needed.
- Commitment to safety protocols and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Primary activities will include processing and placing in-bound packages in warehouse, pulling bulk orders from warehouse and processing FedEx outbound shipments. Must be able to work with limited supervision and keep up with fast-paced operation. Computer-based experience in warehouse or shipping/receiving setting is preferred. Attendance, good attitude, ability to work independently as well as part of a team and attention to detail are all essential.
Highly qualified and/or experienced candidates will be eligible to start at a higher rate of pay than stated in the job description.
