M&R Power Equipment

Operations Manager Job Description:

Daily tasks, Roles, Duties and Responsibilities

The role of the Operations Manager is to ensure smooth operation of various processes that contribute to the production of goods and services of M&R Power Equipment. Obviously, the role of an Operations Manager is very wide and encompasses many operational areas. While other employees can focus on a specialized area of operation (for example, driving, prepping equipment, selling, service), the Operations Manager typically wears multiple hats and does a bit of just about everything.

The broad roles and responsibilities of the Operations Manager include but are not limited to the following:

Logistics management: The Operations Manager ensures that the machinery and equipment used have the ability to produce goods (power equipment) and services (deliveries) for the client at an acceptable standard. The Operations

Manager also coordinates with the quality assurance personnel to ensure that the equipment meets an acceptable standard and generates positive feedback from clients. The manager will interact with the employees, prepare reports on the current condition of logistics, operational measurements such as on-time deliveries and decide on the next course of action.

Budget management: The Operations Manager will obtain the requirements for logistics and coordinate with the finance manager to obtain the necessary approval for the budget. The Operations Manager ensures efficient and effective productivity while working within the company’s budget.

Operational strategizing: Apart from logistics management, the Operations Manager plays a key role in creating and managing the overall operational policy. For example, the Operations Manager could determine the types of equipment needed to fulfill the organizational goals. The operational manager should also formulate suggestions on how to make optimum use of the resources of the organization (for example: Current equipment, and Human Resources, Policies,

Procedures, etc.).

Managing Staff and Third Party Relations: Ensuring that all staff is properly managed and motivated to achieve the established goals of the organization. They are responsible to ensure Customer Satisfaction, on-time deliveries, and complete and quality. Fulfilling the expectations that come from wearing multiple hats can be the most challenging aspect of an operational manager’s job. 5 Key Personality Traits of The Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is the Leader of his department. When it comes down to it, he/she is ultimately responsible for whether or not the company is profiting and functioning efficiently. Not everyone is fit for the job. In order to be a good

Operations Manager, you need to have these five key personality traits:

Leadership

It is hard to summarize all the skills that make up a good leader but these people are immediately recognizable. They are the ones that exude confidence in all of their actions. When these leaders speak, they demand authority and respect. However, a leader never forgets about the team he/she is running and makes sure to offer encouragement and support where needed. A good leader will also never be afraid to admit when he/she has made a mistake.

Great Planner

Part of being an Operations Manager involves organizing many parts of a project into one functioning whole. In order to do this, the Operations Manager must be able to break down the parts and put them into a plan. However, it isn’t enough for the Operations Manager to make a plan. He or she also must make sure that the plan is put into effect, forecast problems, and find workable solutions along the way. This requires an analytical mind and a great eye for details as well as the ability to predict future outcomes.

Common Sense

Operations Managers are often valued for their creativity in coming up with new ideas and problem solving. However, this creativity always lies on a basis of common sense. The Operations Manager will be able to look at all aspects of the company with objectivity and calculate whether plans are actually feasible or not. It isn’t enough to have knowledge… one must also have the basic sense to put that knowledge into practice. Knowledge isn’t power… Applied knowledge is.

Effective Communicator

Many people think that operation managers are completely “Type-A” personalities with analytical mindsets. However, they also need some Type-B traits that help them work well with people, especially in regards to communication. The job of an Operations Manager involves translating complicated ideas and instructions to teams of people, Customers, and other department heads. Since the Operations Manager will interact with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds, this can be very challenging. While looking at the technical aspects of a job, the Operations Manager should never forget about the human element and forget that people are the backbone of our Business..

Cool Under Pressure

The job of an Operations Manager can be incredibly stressful. Not only is the success of the company or department his/ her responsibility, and they usually work long hours and weekends. They need to be able to remain calm no matter what problems occur. In the event of a problem, the Operations Manager needs to have the cool mindset to quickly troubleshoot the problem.
