Summary

The success of recovery coaching hinges on building strong, meaningful relationships with clients. Peer Recovery Coaches provide direct support to individuals in recovery, guiding them through goal-setting, skill development, and personalized coaching strategies. Uses strengths-based approaches to assist clients in achieving sustained recovery from their substance use disorder by building resources and community support networks. Coaches are assigned to either the Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Loveland, or Denver office based on their client distribution to enhance service delivery and engagement. This position includes a tiered pay structure that incentivizes certifications, professional development, and adherence to state standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides peer recovery support services to recoverees in person, by phone, and in the community setting. Responds to recoveree concerns by identifying, developing, and expanding upon their strengths and capacities. Assists recoverees in accessing and effectively using community resources related to housing, medical care, education, vocational training, and access to social, spiritual or leisure activities, etc. before, during, and after addiction treatment services. Teaches and models daily living and recovery management skills with recoverees in real world settings. Completes the necessary related documentation to the above-described duties. Provides presentations, group facilitation and trainings within the community as needed. Attends team meetings, when available. Performs specific job tasks related to job as needed or as requested by the Peer Recovery Supervisor.

Preparation & Documentation

  • Session Preparation: Review client progress notes, prepare session materials, and set session goals.
  • Accurate Record-Keeping: Maintain detailed and timely documentation of client interactions, progress, and compliance requirements.
  • Ethics & Compliance: Follow ethical guidelines, HIPAA regulations, and supervision requirements for all documentation.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Manage session schedules using the organization’s platform, subject to Executive Director approval.
  • Align availability with client needs and organizational priorities.

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Complete required certifications and ongoing training in Recovery & Wellness, Ethics, Advocacy, Motivational Interviewing, and other relevant areas.
  • Adhere to state certification requirements and professional development milestones for advancement.

Qualifications

· Must be in long term recovery from a substance use disorder and have documentation to support this.

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Completion of Peer Recovery Coach Training.

· One year of peer coaching or related experience preferred.

· Valid Colorado Driver’s license.

· Valid Auto insurance.

· Completion of CBI check, National and State Sex Offender Registry check, and OIG Exclusion List.

· Driver’s License record review.

Required Skills

· Knowledge of the disease of substance abuse through direct working experience or course work.

· Knowledge of motivational interviewing, engagement strategies, co-occurring disorders, stages of change theory, and community resources.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize and be detail oriented.

· Able to maintain 100% client confidentiality.

Other Skills/Qualifications

· Strong belief in family centered practice

· ROSC (Recovery Orientated Systems of Care)

· Ability to provide services or refer to services that assist/enrich the recoveree and recoverees’ family members.

· Ability to work with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.

· Comfortable working independently in the community setting.

· Open-mindedness about multiple paths to recovery.

· Ability to focus on and reinforce positive strengths and behaviors.

· Ability to share personal substance use disorder long term recovery experience.

· Knowledge of creating client-centered recovery and transition plans helpful.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies to health fairs, presentations and/or other public forums.

Equipment Used

Computer, Copier/Fax/Printer, Multi-line Telephone System, Movable Shelving system.

Work Environment

· Flexible hours including some weekends, evenings and holidays.

· Travel may be Required

· Services will be provided in the community, at the office, at the recoveree’s home, or other community setting.

· Transport recoverees and their family members as needed to meet Recovery Plan Objectives
