Position Summary:
The Front-Line Manager is responsible for managing & leading all plant activities and coworkers who work on or support the Operations team. This includes shift supervisors, leads, machine operators and coworkers in support roles. The Front-Line Manager will be responsible for the combined strategic (long-term) and tactical (short-term) management planning and execution of assigned manufacturing processes.
The Front-Line Manager will review production schedules, plan staffing and assign work, implement policies and procedures and recommend improvements in coworker training & development, production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. They will also support capital investment planning, margin analysis, budgeting, and deployment of capital resources.
Responsibilities:
Lead and develop coworkers to achieve established goals of safety, production volume, quality, service, and cost
Fosters a “safety first” culture through training, evaluation, and continual focus. Ensures facility and coworker compliance with federal, state and local EH&S laws and regulations
Lead daily management of all production activities by monitoring performance against targets and provide support in attaining levels of expected performance
Ensure the Operations team has the necessary tools and training to meet their goals successfully and efficiently
Provide direction and guidance to the production team through coaching and counseling; motivate, empower, develop and recognize individual and team achievements
Develop & implement best in class training programs
Works closely with Logistics, Engineering, Maintenance, EH&S, and Scheduling to ensure proper production planning and utilization of resources on the right priorities to meet customer requirements
Reviews daily production schedule to plan work and coworker’s assignments. Rebalances based on utilization of assets.
Provides proactive leadership, actions, and results on safety, quality, and continuous improvement topics
Provides hands on problem solving & ability to troubleshoot issues that may arise (i.e. take action on repairs, schedule outside resources, solve with productivity and/or quality issues.)
Establish workflow practices & policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising safety or product quality
Utilize the continuous improvement process and other operations tool sets (i.e Lean, Six Sigma, 6S, TPS, TPM.) to provide high levels of performance.
Lead, supervises, and directs coworkers in performing operations according to sound operating principles and company policies and procedures
Provides support regarding the manufacturing process and makes recommendations regarding tools, equipment, safety, quality and costs/expenses
Anticipates and determines causes of delays or downtime in operations and takes appropriate action to meet schedules
Maintains a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates and management
Hire, train, recognize and motivate coworkers in accordance with our core values and company policies and practices.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance or Operations
5 to 10 years manufacturing experience with at least five years of managerial experience
Familiar with Lean Manufacturing and other current manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
Ability to coordinate plant activities and create material, manufacturing and communication flow throughout the facility
Must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), team building skills and ability to effectively train others
Strong business acumen (management principles, strategic planning, critical thinking, budgeting, resource allocation, human resources, etc.)
