What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Haul Driver position at M5 Utilities?
The Class A Heavy Haul Driver will be responsible for transporting goods from one place to another using heavy or tractor-trailer trucks. Currently this position reports to an M5 location in South San Antonio and will occasionally report to our Corporate Office as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Deliver goods via a heavy truck, sometimes over intercity routes.
- Load and unload cargo.
- Record amount and type of cargo being delivered.
- Keep their truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order.
- Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Report all accidents, near misses and other hazards.
- Planning routes efficiently and delivering freight on time.
- Complying with deferral and state trucking rules and regulations, including mandatory rest periods and weight restrictions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Applicable commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
- Works well independently and with others under pressure.
- Good communication skills.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy haul and/or haul dump experience.
- A clean driving record, as well as sound knowledge of truck maintenance.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws that regulate the road freight transport industry.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
