What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alternate Steward/ Judge (Seasonal) position at MA Gaming Commission?
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire an Alternate Steward/Judge. Under the direction of the Director of Racing this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the race meet. This position will be an on-call position based at licensed racetrack facilities in the Commonwealth (Plainridge Park Race Track). The anticipated dates of service are on an as-needed basis beginning in April through November.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supervise the conduct of all racing officials
Review all applications for occupational licenses and make approval/denial decisions
Oversee the opening of entries and the drawing of positions; review eligibility of all entries; review programs for errors and changes; promptly report errors and changes
Observe each race and replay; participate in the review of inquiries or objections; make results official; designate horses for testing
Participate in hearings regarding alleged rule infractions; recommend appropriate sanctions
Respond quickly and appropriately to questions and complaints

Knowledge/skills required:
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
Knowledge/skills preferred:
Previous experience working in the MGC racing division is preferred
Experience with relevant office software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite
Previous similar experience in a local, state, or federal government agency setting
Salary is hourly and commensurate with experience.
