Summary
M.A. Metal, Inc., a premier custom metal fabrication company in Edinburgh, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to lead our purchasing and supply chain efforts. Reporting directly to the President, this role will oversee material ordering, subcontractor management, and all direct and indirect purchasing for the company. The Procurement Manager will ensure the timely delivery of quality goods at competitive prices, manage vendor and subcontractor relationships, and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational efficiency. This position requires strong analytical skills, negotiation expertise, and a proactive approach to demand forecasting and inventory management to support M.A. Metal’s diverse fabrication operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Ordering & Subcontractor Management: Manage the procurement of raw materials, components, and subcontractor services, ensuring on-time and in-full delivery to meet production schedules.
- Direct & Indirect Purchasing: Oversee all purchasing activities, including direct materials (e.g., steel, coatings) and indirect goods/services (e.g., tools, utilities), to support company-wide operations.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Metrics: Develop and track KPIs for the material department, vendors, and subcontractors, analyzing performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Supplier Negotiation: Work closely with suppliers to negotiate competitive pricing, terms, and contracts, ensuring cost efficiency without compromising quality.
- Supplier Development & Improvement: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, driving continuous improvement in quality, delivery, and service levels.
- Demand Forecasting: Analyze time phase reporting and open purchase orders to forecast material needs, aligning procurement with production demands.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and track inventory levels, ensuring adequate stock of components and supplies to prevent production delays while minimizing excess.
- Process Optimization: Streamline purchasing processes, reduce lead times, and implement cost-saving initiatives in collaboration with production and leadership teams.
- Reporting: Provide regular updates to the President on procurement performance, supplier issues, and inventory status, offering data-driven recommendations.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Experience managing both material orders and subcontractor relationships is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing time phase (demand) reports, open purchase orders, and inventory systems. Familiarity with ERP software (e.g., Epicor, SAP) and demand forecasting tools is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Negotiation Expertise: Proven ability to negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers and subcontractors, balancing cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to develop and interpret KPIs, metrics, and reports to drive procurement decisions and improvements.
- Physical Requirements: Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to the shop floor or supplier sites, requiring mobility and exposure to a manufacturing environment (with appropriate PPE).
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams while reporting to senior leadership.
