Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday-through Friday, occasional Saturday & 8-hour Shift
Work Location: In-Person (Plymouth, Indiana)
Job Function:
To learn under the direction of the Tooling Manager and/or Master Tooler, the Tooler will assist in all job functions related to building new tools, modifying existing tools, or performing routine tool maintenance.
Essential Functions:
- Mixes and applies materials under the direction of the Tooling Manager and/or Master Tooler, required working in the Tooling Room environment which includes fiberglass dust, chemical fumes, and noise.
- Operates a variety of hand tools to manually sand and shape tools or patterns under the direction of the Tooling Manager or Master Tooler; requires ability to visually check work.
- Requires lifting to 50lbs, may require use of respirator and protective clothing.
- Mixes resins and fillers to proper ratios under the direction of the Tooling Manager and/or Master Tooler; may require use of respirator and protective clothing.
- Apply a variety of welding techniques, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and stick welding, based on the materials and specifications of the project.
- Follow welding procedures that meet industry standards, ensuring that welds are free from defects such as porosity, cracking, or misalignment.
- Inspect completed welds using visual inspection and testing methods like ultrasonic or radiographic testing to ensure structural integrity and compliance with project requirements.
- Assists with all activities of making new tools.
- Assists with alterations and repairs of existing production tools.
- Cleans and sweeps work area.
- Perform other departmental duties as requested.
Required to Learn:
- How to mix MEKP into various resins and or gelcoat at proper ratios.
- How to mix BPO into fillers at proper ratios.
- How to identify air entrapment in laminate.
- How to release air bubbles from laminate using roller, squeegee or brush.
- How to repair damaged or defective FRP on production molds.
- How to apply fiberglass in layers until desired thickness is achieved.
- The basics of composites.
- The proper use of tools.
- How to interpret engineering drawings.
- How to operate a fork truck.
Requirements:
- Knowledge: Requires basic knowledge as acquired through some high school or basic work experience. Must possess basic math skills. Able to read tape measure.
- Mental: Requires normal attention and aptitude to learn about composite. Able to apply logic and reasoning.
- Physical: Requires walking and/or standing up to 90% of the time and lifting of up to 50 lbs. 5% of the time. The remaining involves bending, stooping, and crouching as needed by jobs within the department.
- Environmental: Requires capability of performing essential job functions in the Tooling Room, which involves fiberglass dust, chemical fumes and noise.
- Manual Dexterity: Requires use of arms, hands, legs, and feet. Requires ability to operate a variety of hand tools and power tools as needed. (Sanders, grinders, saws, drills etc.)
- Audible/Visual: Requires ability to visually check work. Requires hearing to receive directions. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
- Language: Must be able to speak, write and understand English proficiently.
