SUMMARY
The Culinary Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Ivy Street School kitchen and culinary program. In collaboration with the Culinary Teacher, this role ensures the seamless flow of culinary instruction and supports the development of students' independent living skills through hands-on culinary experiences. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, this role is responsible for managing kitchen staff, ensuring food safety, and coordinating culinary programming for students. The Culinary Supervisor will also work closely with the Education and Residential departments to align the culinary program with students’ educational and therapeutic goals.
The culinary program is integral to our mission, equipping students with life skills and professional opportunities that promote independence and confidence. Students benefit from hands-on experience in meal preparation and kitchen operations, learning transferable skills that enhance their transition into adulthood.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Kitchen Operations and Food Preparation
- Oversee the preparation of daily meals for students and staff, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
- Manage menu planning, inventory, and food ordering to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, including ServSafe guidelines.
- Monitor kitchen equipment for functionality and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
Student Engagement
- Collaborate with the Education and Residential teams to develop culinary programming that supports students’ treatment goals and independent living skills.
- Co-facilitate culinary classes and after-school cooking groups, engaging students in hands-on learning experiences.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for students, implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and trauma-informed care principles.
Administrative and Strategic Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of food inventory, purchases, and compliance documentation.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Director of Program Operations on culinary program progress and kitchen operations.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the culinary program, identifying opportunities for innovation and student engagement.
- Participate in hiring, training, and performance evaluations for kitchen staff.
Crisis Management and Safety
- Oversee and enforce safety protocols, including emergency procedures
- Participate in crisis intervention when necessary, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
COMPETENCIES
- Strong knowledge of food handling, preparation, and safety standards.
- Experience supervising staff and managing kitchen operations.

- Proficiency in fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care and therapeutic frameworks such as PBIS.

SUPERVISORY
- Supervise and mentor Culinary Teaching Assistants and kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION
- ServSafe certification required.
- CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained upon hire).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a background check, drug, and alcohol testing.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Culinary experience preferred; relevant certifications or training in Food Management, Culinary Arts, or a related field are highly desirable.
Schedule: Monday- Friday 10am-6pm (including Holidays)
