What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist (waiver) position at MAB Community Services?
SUMMARY
We are seeking a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist, who, under the general supervision of the Allied Health Director will be working with a multi-disciplinary team providing therapy rehabilitation to individuals who are enrolled in the ABI/MFP waivers. You will be working with individuals who have brain injuries, neurological impairments, and psychological impairments amongst other disorders return to their highest level of functioning. This includes training in the use of compensatory skills and aids that will enable them to live safely, productively, independently, and up to their maximum potential. The therapy will enhance personal management skills, communication skills, travel skills, community re-entry skills, and home management skills. Therapy may take place in the consumer’s home, in the community, or wherever deemed necessary. Therapy will be focused on meeting the participant’s goals and needs and provide quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results as well as determining occupational therapy treatment plans to improve the participant’s quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as below but also can include other duties as assigned):
The OT will work as an integrated member of the therapy team that supports the rehabilitation and independence of all participants within the ABI/MFP Waivers.
Works in collaboration with other team members in performing a functional assessment of each participant. Evaluates the participant’s needs and wants to develop goals around regaining independent functioning in everyday life skills. Assist in restoring affected abilities to the highest possible level of function, to reduce the risk of further impairment, to protect the participant’s abilities, and to assist the participant to use his or her abilities.
Selects constructive activities that are suited to the participant’s needs, physical and cognitive capabilities, and interest levels to maximize their independence, assist in restoration of function, and to engage everyone in daily activities of interest.
Assist each participant and program in identifying goals of interest, as well as to promote independent functioning. Teaches individual skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates participant’s progress.
Provide staff training and education on how to work with each participant side by side to assist them in continuing their journey to regain the highest level of independence achievable. This model of therapy is heavily focused on using an interdisciplinary team approach for success. In addition to staff training provide education to family members and friends who are a part of the participant’s everyday lives.
Works in conjunction with team members to provide each participant with the structure and schedule needed to improve independence and quality of life in everyday lives.
Recommend adaptive equipment for participant’s and suggests adaptation of participant’s living environment if needed. Works with other therapists as needed to write letters of medical necessity if required to assist in obtaining required durable medical equipment.
Provides timely billing and written documentation as required by the provider to meet all reimbursement requirements.
Related duties and responsibilities:
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
Mentor students and interns.
Attend weekly supervision provided by the allied health director as needed.
Keeps up licensure and participates in continuing education and training for best practices. Stay in good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards.
Participates in continuing education and training of rehabilitation and clinical staff on best practices.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Required to provide mentoring and feedback to other members of the TRC. May be required to provide mentoring and feedback or supervision to students and/or interns as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Licensed certified Occupational Therapist: two years preferred knowledge and related experience in working with ABI population outpatient experience, home care experience, or other related placements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to provide training and ongoing feedback to participants and team members. Ability to make effective presentations to consumers and outside professionals as needed. Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with providers, clients, vendors, colleagues, employees, volunteers, and others. Must be able to present MAB as a professional service always dedicated to clinical excellence.

Ability to define and solve problems. Ability to use sound judgment in situations where limited or no guidelines exist. Ability to respond appropriately to various crises and incidents. Ability to anticipate problems and plan proactively.
