Book Editor (Remote)

Role Description:

Mabaya Group is seeking a Book Editor to enhance manuscripts by ensuring clarity, structure, and overall readability. The ideal candidate will have experience in editing fiction and/or non-fiction books, refining grammar, consistency, and style while maintaining the author’s voice.

This is a remote contract role, but candidates must be based in Manhattan, New York, United States, and eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

• Edit and proofread manuscripts for grammar, clarity, and flow.
• Ensure consistency in tone, structure, and formatting across chapters.
• Fact-check content to ensure accuracy and credibility.
• Collaborate with authors and publishers to maintain creative integrity.
• Manage multiple projects while meeting strict deadlines.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• 3 years of experience in book editing, publishing, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, AP Style, or other editorial standards.
• Ability to edit across multiple genres, including fiction and non-fiction.
• Attention to detail with excellent grammatical and structural editing skills.
• Candidates must be based in Manhattan, New York, United States, and eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading.
• Familiarity with self-publishing platforms like Amazon KDP or traditional publishing workflows.
• Strong research skills for fact-checking and content accuracy.

Compensation & Job Type:

• Freelance, Contract (Paid) – Competitive rates based on experience and project scope.
• Estimated Pay Range: $30 – $80 per hour or $500 – $5,000 per project, depending on complexity.
• Remote – Candidates must be based in Manhattan, New York, United States, or eligible to work in the U.S.
