LARGE MANUFACTURING PLANT IN ALLENDALE NJ IS LOOKING FOR A SHARP MACHINE SHOP MANAGER.
LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE MANAGING MACHINISTS / MACHINE BUILDERS BUT ALSO SOMEONE THAT IS STRONG WITH THE LEAN / PROCESS IMPROVEMENT SIDE. SO NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH BOTH AND ALSO MANAGING INVENTORY, DRIVING CHANGE, ETC.
DAY SHIFT ROLE 8AM-5PM
SALARY : $80K-$100K
Job Purpose
The Equipment Manufacturing Manager is responsible for all facets of equipment and tooling, from fabrication up through validation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage internal and external lead-times to meet project schedules.
Leading machine shop team that is responsible for machining components and the building of equipment.
Execution of production tooling.
Supervise and organize workload for internal machine shop team and for equipment builders.
Optimize productivity levels in machine shop operations.
Manage Bills of Material for machine builds including internally & externally machined components.
Manage capacity utilizing internal and external resources to meet deadlines.
Outsource machining needs and build relationships with external suppliers.
Planning / scheduling for equipment / machine builds.
Work closely with the technical team to develop a collaborative approach for all projects.
Manage estimating and accounting for build projects.
Purchase and maintain inventory of shop supplies and tools.
Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, and providing ongoing training.
Assesses employee skills; cross trains staff; resolves workplace issues and provides disciplinary actions as needed.
Perform employee coaching, reviews, and assessments.
Manage time off requests and employee timesheets to support accurate payroll processing.
Other assignments as requested.
Qualifications
Requires leadership skills to coordinate various teams to meet goals.
Requires a multidisciplined background with a focus on mechanical systems, project management and machine shop production operations.
Familiar with standard measurement techniques.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of machining operations : milling, turning, grinding, etc.
Demonstrates ability to self-motivate and to solve problems in a fast-paced setting.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Investigative mind inclined toward developing practical solutions to real-world problems.
A proven understanding of part and quality workmanship.
Communication skills - must have good listening skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Bilingual English / Spanish a plus.
Working knowledge of CAD / CAM software, ERP systems and Solidworks PDM a plus.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent job experience.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a machine shop environment.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Working conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, ambient air, fumes or airborne particles.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high requiring safety equipment to be utilized.

Candidate must be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the job utilizing arms, hands, and fingers to perform complex functions of manufacturing parts and performing other duties of the job, e.g., standing, sitting, walking through the facility and stairs, bending, squatting, and kneeling, etc.
Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 32lbs (females) and 50lbs (males) preferred.
