The Financial Controller is a key strategic voice in our church's organization, responsible for providing financial leadership across multiple organizational entities and projects (including the church, ministry school, and building project).
The ideal candidate will fit into our church family culture and bring strategic financial expertise, advising the leadership team with high-level financial reporting and planning while ensuring legal compliance and smooth daily operations.

Responsibilities
Job Scope :
- Kingdom Movement currently has multiple branches with more on the horizon - the controller will help the leadership team make informed decisions as the church family and organization grow
- Current branches : Church, KMSM School of Ministry, Buildings (including a building project in the land search phase, and office space rental)
Financial Reporting & Analysis :
Ensure Quickbooks architecture and chart of accounts are appropriate for current branches of KMPrepare high-level financial reports for the senior leadership team, finance board, and KMSM board (monthly, quarterly, and annual reports)Provide financial analysis to provide insights into the financial health of Kingdom MovementAnalyze financial trends, budget variances, and operational performance, providing strategic recommendations to leadership including risk management and investmentsOversee the preparation of reports to external stakeholders as needed, including donors during building campaigns and church familyAccounting Oversight & Record Keeping :
Review the work of the bookkeeper / accountant to ensure all transactions are recorded properly and in compliance with non-profit legal requirementsProvide guidance on complex accounting matters and financial decisionsAdvise bookkeeper / accountant to ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and oversee payroll processingPlanning & Budgeting :
High-level oversight of the church's budgetWork with the senior leadership team to establish financial goals and forecastsReview and approve the budget prepared by the bookkeeper in communication with team leads / department headsInternal Controls & Compliance :
Implement and enforce financial controls to safeguard church assetsReview financial procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., tax filings, charitable status)Oversee the preparation for external audits and reviews, ensuring the church is audit-ready at all timesCash Flow Management :
Monitor overall cash flow and liquidity to ensure the church can meet its financial obligationsMake high-level decisions regarding managing cash reserves or investing fundsDonor & Fund Management :
Ensure that donor contributions, grants, and restricted funds are appropriately managed and used in accordance with biblical stewardship principlesReview reports related to donations and building campaign pledges prepared by the bookkeeper to ensure accuracy and complianceDay to Day Financial Operations :
A / P & A / R : Ensure accounts receivable / payable are complete including receipt filing and management of the reimbursement online form.Cash Flow : Accurately record all day-to-day financial transactions of Kingdom Movement, verifying the correct recording of all transactions.Budgets : Assist department heads and team leads with day-to-day budgetary issues. Provide insights into future budgets from past spending habits (as this role has eyes on daily transactions)Reporting : Ensure non-profit legal compliance while abiding by all internal controls and preparing monthly reports for the executive team. Handle debit / credit card reportsAdmin / HR : Insurance / LNI renewals. PayrollLines of Authority :
The Controller reports to the finance boardThe Controller works with an outside auditor as needed to ensure compliance with all legal requirementsQualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field3 years of experience in financial management or accountingProficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft ExcelStrong understanding of non-profit financial regulations and complianceExpertise in legal requirements for non-profit chart of accounts and financial statements (income statement, statement of cashflows, and balance sheet)Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsImmaculate attention to detail is a must
