Next Up and Next Up Action Fund is seeking a committed, resourceful, full-time (32 hours / week) Development Director. This position reports directly to and works closely with the Executive Director, helping to leverage new opportunities, cultivate critical partnerships, and maintain high standards in data, communications, and relationships. As a part of the team, the Development Director will work collaboratively to ensure the overall strength and health of the organization and the work.
We’re looking for someone who believes in the power of young people to create change and is passionate about building power for our movements. You are a money organizer – you ensure that our staff, youth base, and extended community have the resources they need to do their work. Our ideal candidate takes initiative, is highly organized and detail oriented, builds relationships easily, and has experience leading fundraising campaigns, planning events, and managing donor data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising and donor programs - 50%
- Manage and steward the process to identify, qualify, and build relationships with prospective foundation and institutional funders, donors and corporate sponsors; manage the process and support the team to cultivate, solicit, and steward existing funders, donors and sponsors
- Manage alumni stewardship efforts, and launch new program tracking impact of Next Up Alumni in Oregon Politics
- Coordinate and support fundraising communications (, email, text banking) for the Executive Director
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to organize annual fundraising events. Coordinate party planning, set fundraising goals, manage sponsorships, and collaborate with Operations on logistics and Communications on marketing and promotion
- Coordinate grassroots fundraising including direct mail solicitations, end of year giving, planning events, and developing a strong regular donor base
- Manage and lead on monthly donor growth, retention and stewardship, including growing an Alumni giving program; develop targets and implement plans to grow the program
- Create written donor materials and communications, including : cases for support, emails, mailings, and online content
- Manage development staff, interns, and fundraising volunteers as needed
- Lead the procurement process for in-kind donations and produce in-kind donation receipts
- When necessary, supervise contractors related to development functions

Job Title : Development Director
Salary : $79,115.00 / year to start with annual raises
Duration : Full time (32 / hour work week), permanent position with occasional evening work required.
Benefits : Our benefits include medical, vision, and dental coverage (with 100% of the premium covered by the employer), 401k retirement matching, a 4-day (on average 32-36 hour) work week, a laptop computer, professional development funding, cell phone and work from home stipends, flexible scheduling, 20 days of PTO per year (10 days for 2024 if hired after July 1), a generous sabbatical policy, and paid holidays including a two-week office closure in December.
Location : Our office is in Southeast Portland, Oregon near OMSI. We have a hybrid work policy that requires full-time staff to work 1-2 days per week in-person. Biannual team retreats and a few major events are required in-person as well.
