Karibu is a dorm style culturally specific program that serves AA / Black Men. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the client flow in the Karibu program and is an integral part of the program case management team. The Karibu Resident Advocate will support and monitor men exiting or diverting from incarceration that will be assessed for their next level of care. The Karibu Resident Advocate will be a member of a team to provide support to clients who may experience severe mental health issues, life threatening physical health issues, Intellectual / Developmental Disability issues, and dangerous psychopathy. The Karibu Resident Advocate will communicate, document and report client activity.
Karibu (pronounced kah-REE-boo) provides individualized, culturally specific stabilization and treatment preparation for Black / African American adults. Services include outreach and engagement, addiction and mental health recovery support, peer services, case management, and transitional housing in the form of dormitory style best for 14-20 unstably housed men.
Schedule : Thursday - Sunday 07 : 00 AM - 3 : 30 PM, Monday 3 : 00 PM - 11 : 30 PM
Location : Karibu (2020 SE Powell Blvd, Portland, OR 97202)
Compensation : Starting at $20.78 per hour, could increase depending on experience and internal equity
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of chemical dependency, addictions and mental health issues preferred.
- Experience or familiarity using computers for basic functions (data entry, word processing).
- Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988. An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must not actively be on parole or probation.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull, lift heavy objects, and climb stairs several times a day.
- Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, and residents / program participants with diverse backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
