Job Summary

Ashbrook Independent School is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and creative Summer Program Assistant Teacher to work in the Ashbrook Summer Program serving students in Preschool through 4th grade. The Assistant will support the lead teacher and director in the day to day operation of the summer program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

An Ashbrook Educator will :

  • Be passionate about working with students of this particular age group.
  • Know the appropriate knowledge and skills regarding developmental characteristics and needs of the specific age group with whom they work.
  • Create a safe and secure environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and play together, including providing specific programs that establish a bias-free environment inclusive for all, which focuses on eliminating cliques and establishing a climate where bullying is unacceptable.
  • Understand children's patterns of physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth in order to support each child's emerging identity, to respect and provide for each student's voice, and to build a relationship with each student in which that student feels understood, nurtured, and challenged.
  • Defend the dignity and worth of each member of the community and create an environment that fosters respect, understanding, and acceptance of differences.
  • Help students learn to make responsible choices and understand the consequences of their actions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

The Summer Program Assistant Teacher will work in conjunction with the Summer Program Director to :

  • Coordinate the care, development and instructional support of the children enrolled in Ashbrook's Summer Program.
  • Plan learning opportunities and curriculum to develop skills designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth.
  • Develop a range of engaging activities including both indoor and outdoor activities, centers, special projects, etc.
  • Collaborate with support staff within the Summer Program as well as with other school staff teaching in the program.
  • Communicate proactively and positively with parents.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and health of children in the program.
  • Create and maintain a positive and caring learning environment.
  • Maintain all state child care licensing requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have prior to or within 2 weeks of start date : CPR / First Aid certification, Food Handlers Card, registration with Oregon Central Background Registry, Child Abuse and Neglect Training
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • At least two years of successful experience in a classroom, childcare facility or summer program.
  • Currently active in the Oregon Central Background Registry
  • Compensation

    The weekly total hours could be flexible based on applicant's needs.

    Hourly wage rate will be determined based on experience level.

    Summer Program is scheduled to run daily from June 23, 2025 to August 15, 2025
