What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roofer: Roofing Installation Laborer Low Slope position at MacDermott Roofing, Inc.?
MacDermott Roofing has been servicing the Metro Detroit area since 1975 and has a long history of excellence. We are looking for the next wave of talent to be brought up though the organization. This position is for a laborer on a roofing installation crew for low slope roofs (flat roofing, not shingle).
What is the position?
- Installing Duro-Last PVC roofs on commercial buildings year-round.
- You’ll be part of a 5–6-person crew with a Foreman.
- This is a career move; we want you to be here for the long haul for two reasons:
- We want to develop your skills to eventually become part of the Leadership team. (Assistant Foreman, Foreman, Lead Technician, etc.)
- When the crew is stable and has long term members, they work together more cohesively, harmoniously, and effectively.
- You would be reporting directly to jobsites around the Metro Detroit area so reliable transportation is important.
- Fill in on our Service Department (roof repairs) as needed, which is highly encouraged to take advantage of cross training opportunities. It's a performance based wage so the more of a utility player you are, your wage will reflect it.
Typical Responsibilities and Duties:
- Lifting and carrying over 50lbs.
- Climbing ladders, crouching, kneeling
- Execute installation of Duro-Last roof per spec
- Using hand tools
- Communicating/collaborating with co-workers
- Learning new skills or improving on existing ones
- Obtain safety training and maintain safety protocol and standards at all times
- Typical working hours are roughly 7:00a-4:00p Monday-Friday, season depending (may be earlier in summer to beat the summer heat, or a little later of a day if there is a deadline to meet).
- Weekend work is possible if there is a missed day during the week due to weather.
- OT is possible if needed to get projects completed.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old
- High school Diploma or GED
- Reliable transportation and valid Driver’s License (may need to drive company vehicle at some point so a drivers license is required)
- Ability to use hand tools
- On time and available to work everyday
- Quick learner
- Good communication/interpersonal skills
- OSHA 10 certification within the last 5 years; if not it will be required within the first 60 days of employment
- Those with low slope roofing experience will get first look
Compensation and Benefits:
- Paid weekly
- Open to negotiation on compensation rate based on current skill set. Entry level with no low slope experience starts at $20 per hour.
