What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Maintenance Assistant position at MacDowell?
Since 1907, MacDowell has supported more than 8,500 artists at all stages of career development. Roughly 300 annual Fellowships lasting up to six weeks are awarded with no strings attached—artists arriving with their own projects are provided one of 31 studios on the 450-acre campus.
From May to August, the Summer Maintenance Assistant will join a friendly, supportive, and active team to provide care for MacDowell's buildings and natural environment. The Summer Maintenance Assistant reports to the Maintenance Foreman.
Duties include:
- Removal of winter debris
- Landscaping (raking, lawn repair, reseeding, mowing, and trimming)
- Painting of studios and common buildings
- Firewood production
- Some heavy shovel work and heavy lifting
- Grounds preparation and day-of support for Medal Day, MacDowell’s largest annual public event
Hours are M-F 7:30a-3:30p. Staff lunch is provided on most days.
Qualifications
- Desire and ability to work harmoniously with a team of professionals dedicated to sustaining ideal working conditions for creative artists
- Ability to routinely transport materials weighing 40 lbs. and occasionally 60 lbs.
- Ability to repeatedly reposition self and shift stance to perform essential landscaping tasks
- Valid driver’s license required
- Available to work at a public event on the weekend of June 29th (will receive overtime pay)
- Must be at least 18 years old
Compensation
Compensation for this seasonal position starts at $18.50/hour.
