What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Batchman Operator position at Machado Ready Mix?
The Batchman is responsible for preparing ready mix concrete in a timely matter in accordance with industry standard. The Batchman must properly batch concrete in accordance with all job specifications and mix designs. Quality and consistency of product must be priority.
Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1 to 3 months related experience.
Language Skills: Read, write, and speak English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, etc. Write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions. and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations.
Computer skills: Apply basic computer skills for entering orders and batching concrete.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Attend training and get certification Maryland for all concrete production levels. Maintains ACI Concrete Testing Technician Grade 1 Certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform batching of ready - mix, ensuring that proper mix design and job specifications are followed. Responsible for plant maintenance and repair. Inspects plant equipment and facilities for mechanical problems to the Plant Operations Manager. Performs and records product testing on a scheduled basis. Performs raw material inventory at the end of the month. Maintains an adequate inventory of concrete chemical admixtures. Assist the others in facility maintenance and safety tasks during slow or idle times.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, must be flexible and adaptable to shifting work priorities and be able to work accordingly. Background in construction and/or experience with concrete strongly preferred. Must be a strong problem solver and able to think quickly under pressure. Must be able to exercise good judgment and make logical, rational decisions. Must be able to read and understand maps or map applications (familiarity with the Baltimore metro are strongly preferred).
Physical demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to climb vertical ladders to extreme high places to top of silo. Must be able to lift and carry at least 25 lbs and frequently stoop and bend. Manual dexterity to operate equipment. Must be able to communicate verbally using mobile devices such as radios and cell phones.
This position requires individual to work outdoors the majority of the time. job hazards include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all weather conditions. Potential for serious injury if equipment is misused or safety precautions are not taken.
