The Controller is responsible for oversight of full cycle accounting for the various properties that the company manages. Specific responsibilities review of monthly financial statements, daily interaction with onsite property managers, and adherence to accounting policies and procedures. This individual will utilize his/her unique set of skills and relationships to help lead a dynamic and growing company. 

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities 

• Performs accounting functions for various development, residential, and commercial property portfolios. Oversight duties include but are not limited to:
• Review of monthly property financial statements with supporting schedules and commentary as needed.
• Helps manage cash balances for assigned properties including releasing check runs, initiating wire requests, and performing owner distributions as required.
• Assumes responsibility for the coordination and organization with external auditors for year-end audit work and prepares supporting schedules.
• Maintains a working knowledge of assigned property budgets and property operations to be able to add effective variance commentary to the monthly financials statement package as required.
• Maintains a working knowledge of vendor contracted services and management agreements for assigned properties.
• Performs various special projects and tasks as required and/or requested.
• Supports Corporate reporting, handling payroll, and other secure company information.
• Works with other business departments to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to
• Enhances work product by introducing new processes and enhancement to financial reporting tasks.
• Ensures quality and assurance for all accounting functions.
• Oversight of all business types, including residential, commercial and development.
• Manage projects for the organization.

Competencies/Required Skills/Abilities

• Effective working knowledge (high level) of Microsoft Excel required.
• Experience with property management applications including RealPage, MRI, or Yardi preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of accrual basis accounting required, with experience in GAAP basis adjustments preferred.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills with internal and external clients as well as professionals within the department.
• Demonstrates professional leadership skills through effective work habits, attitude, inter-personal skills, initiative, and follow-through.
• Demonstrates ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple and changing priorities and deadlines as evidenced by use of tact, maturity, interpersonal effectiveness, good judgement, and discretion.
• Proactively seeks out additional responsibilities or ways to contribute to the group, including working independently on special projects and utilizing specialized knowledge of systems and procedures to enhance individual or group productivity, aid in problem solving/issue resolution, best practice documentation, and process improvement.
• Ability to handle running an audit independently.
• Oversight of Cash Management functions and able to support the AP and Accounting Managers
• Can provide support and administration over accounting software.
• Understanding of complex accounting functions and ability to convey financial information to ownership, including upper tier entities.
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to hold team members accountable and have uncomfortable conversations. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Manage relationships with ownerships and Executive Team members.
• Ability to provide leadership and mentorship to team members.
• Supervises staff, including interviewing, scheduling, training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
• Appraising performance, rewarding, and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

Required/Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• 10 Years of relevant working experience
• RealPage or similar software experience is required.
• Prior large team oversight is required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be physically able to sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally.
• Must be able to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to push/pull up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Use hands/fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to talk and hear.
• Vision abilities required include depth, perceptions, and ability to adjust focus throughout the day.
• The noise level is usually low.  

Compensation, Benefits and Requirements

Salary for this position is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. The compensation structure includes a base salary, paid bi-weekly and qualifies to also earn a performance bonus.  This is a full-time, EXEMPT requiring 40 hours per work week.   Additional or non-business hours and varying amounts of travel may be warranted based on the needs of the business.   MPM offers a well-rounded benefits package, including health, disability, life, and 401k retirement.  A generous time off program aligns with our core value of Vitality where we believe in fostering a culture of well-being.
