Job Description:
Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Engineer specializing in Traffic Engineering in our Pittsburgh, PA office. As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will lead and contribute to a wide range of transportation projects, utilizing your expertise to develop innovative solutions that improve traffic flow, safety, and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in traffic engineering, a strong technical background, and a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and analysis of traffic engineering projects, including traffic signal design, roadway design, intersection design, maintenance and protection of traffic, HOP’s, and traffic impact studies.
- Conduct traffic studies and analyses, including traffic volume counts, capacity analysis, and simulation modeling using software such as Synchro, VISSIM, and HCS.
- Develop transportation improvement plans and recommend strategies to optimize traffic operations, reduce congestion, and enhance safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
- Prepare technical reports, design drawings, and specifications in accordance with industry standards and client requirements.
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that project goals and objectives are met.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff members, assisting in their professional development and growth. Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in traffic engineering and transportation planning.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation, client meetings, and presentations.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering, Land Development, and Construction Management to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in traffic engineering, with a focus on transportation planning, traffic analysis, and signal design.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or the ability to get one is required (Ohio, Maryland, and West Virginia are a plus).
- Proficiency in traffic engineering software and tools, such as Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, and AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply transportation planning principles and guidelines.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
- Experience managing and leading multidisciplinary teams on transportation projects.
- Familiarity with PennDOT, City of Pittsburgh, and PA Turnpike policies, standards, and specifications.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed.
