Job Description:
Mackin Engineers & Consultants is seeking a qualified Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor – 2 (TCIS-2) in our Pittsburgh, PA office. The TCIS-2 will be responsible for overseeing roadway and bridge construction inspections, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, plans, specification, and cost estimates.
This position requires extensive travel, with up to 75% of time spent on-site at various construction locations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough roadway and bridge construction inspections including grade elevations, stakeouts, asphalt or concrete work, drainage, signage, traffic control, and excavation.
- Supervise construction inspection activities, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Coordinate construction inspection activities, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Perform calculations, interpret plans, measure quantities, review quality control plans, and generate reports.
- Monitor contract progress and review project documentation to ensure adherence to contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
- Observe and conduct tests on aggregates, compaction, specific gravities, and more at plants or construction sites.
- Package material samples for shipping and document sampling and testing procedures.
- Operate nuclear guage and perform compaction control inspection on projects.
- Analyze rock and soil properties, including moisture, density, and elevation.
- Interpret construction plans, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accurate implementation of project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and government officials.
- Document and report construction activities, progress, and issues encountered during inspections. Enforce safety regulations and procedures on construction sites to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures on construction sites.
- Assist in resolving construction-related disputes and issues as they arise.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to construction inspection team members.
Qualifications:
- Minium of 1 year of experience in transportation construction inspection supervisory role or related field. Must have PennDOT Concrete Technician Certification and NECEPT Field Technician Certification.
- High school diploma required, Associates or Bachelors degree in civil engineering or related field preferred, but not required.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate construction inspection activities and communicate with project stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Deltek Ajera, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and familiarity using Computers, Printers, and Electronics.
- Ability to travel extensively, with up to 75% of time spent on-site at construction locations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Relevant certifications (e.g. EIT/FE, PE, NICET Highway Construction, NECEPT, PennDOT Concrete/ACI, CDS NextGen, KAHUA, SSPC-C3, NACE Coating Inspector (Levels 1, 2, or 3), NASSCO (PACP, MACP, LACP, OR ITCP), Nuclear Densometer (Nuke Gage).
