Position Overview
Seeking 1 full-time SAT prep teacher to work for Magnolia Prep in our new exclusive partnership with the Maclay School, a prestigious independent school in Tallahassee, Florida.
The teacher will be employed and trained by Magnolia Prep, but will otherwise function as a full faculty member of the Maclay School. Maclay desires a teacher who will be well-integrated into their overall school culture and will be a valued, long-term member of the Maclay faculty.
In addition to interviewing with John Burford, the owner of Magnolia Prep, finalists will also be interviewing with Charles Beamer, Director of Upper School at Maclay, for assessment of cultural fit.
Start date Summer 2025.
Position Responsibilities
The teacher will be teaching a graded, mandatory SAT prep elective for juniors and seniors on-campus during the school day plus 2 hours of on-campus private tutoring after school. Weekly schedule is 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday.
The teacher will be receiving thorough, rigorous training in the SAT and its pedagogy from Magnolia Prep as well as Maclay's standard on-boarding and training for all new teachers.
In addition to being directly supervised by John Burford, the owner of Magnolia Prep, the teacher will be also be interfacing with the Maclay Math and English Departments, who are integrating SAT material into their classrooms under the guidance of Magnolia Prep, and advise them on proper implementation.
They will also be interfacing with the Director of College Counseling on how to help students achieve their college goals.
They will also be interfacing with the Director of Lower School and the Director of Middle School on how those divisions can be effectively laying the groundwork for future student SAT success.
They will also be interfacing with the Maclay Director of Marketing and Enrollment on how to communicate the program to parents as well as how to position this exclusive program as a competitive advantage for the school.
As this new program is one of Maclay's top 3 priorities, the teacher will also be working directly with the Maclay Head of School James Milford and the Director of Upper School Charles Beamer.
Training and Professional Growth:
The teacher will be receiving rigorous training in the SAT itself and its material (math, grammar, vocabulary, etc.) so as to achieve mastery. The teacher will also be trained in the SAT Math and Grammar AI software that we utilize as well as other SAT-specific tools and resources.
The teacher will also receive thorough training in SAT pedagogy individually with the owner, a 14-year veteran of the test prep industry who graduated from Princeton in 2012 and scored a 1590 SAT.
The teacher will also receive weekly 1-on-1 mentoring from the owner once school starts.
The teacher will be receiving Maclay's standard on-boarding and training for all new teachers.
The teacher will be a member of the National Test Prep Association.
The teacher will have the opportunity to spearhead a major school-wide initiative to systematically raise the SAT scores of the entire student body, a rare opportunity for a young teacher.
Through the SAT enrichment component of the program, the teacher will have the opportunity to advise Maclay on major curriculum decisions for multiple divisions and departments.
The teacher will also gain experience in collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.
Position Requirements
- 1420 SAT score or 32 ACT composite score.
- Prior tutoring/teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Be able to pass a background check.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Must either live in Tallahassee or be willing to relocate by July 2025.
