What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contracts Manager position at Macmillan Learning?
We're seeking an experienced, diplomatic and detailed-oriented Contracts Manager to join our busy centralized Contracts team supporting Macmillan trade imprints Celadon Books, Flatiron Books, Henry Holt & Company, and Macmillan Audio, St. Martin's Publishing Group, Tor Publishing Group and the Macmillan Children's Group. The Contracts Manager will draft and negotiate a high volume of author contracts and related documents for Macmillan's adult imprints; directly manage two team members; advise on terms at the deal stage; maintain accurate contract data; track, archive and interpret agreements; and, other projects as needed.
What you'll do:
- Drafting and negotiating a high volume of trade author agreements and amendments with authors' representatives
- Day-to-day management of two team members
- Department go-to for short form agreements and maintenance of related contract data
- Updating boilerplates, entering information in Biblio
- Supporting review of deal memos for Editorial
- Routing documents via DocuSign, archiving agreements and related paperwork
- Coordination with in-house teams including Editorial, Legal, Subrights, Finance/Royalties, Managing Editorial
What you'll bring:
- Ability to accurately draft and negotiate a variety of contracts and related documents in a fast-paced environment
- Significant prior experience at a book publisher, literary agency or similar business
- Thorough grasp of relevant legal and business issues in book publishing industry
- Comfort with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with publishing database systems such as BiblioSuite
- Established record of supervising and training staff
- Careful attention to detail; proficiency balancing priorities and staying organize
- Desirable: genuine interest in process improvements

- 6-10 years drafting and negotiating contracts
This role will have an annual salary of $65,000 - $70,000.
