What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editorial Assistant, FSG position at Macmillan Publishers?
Join the team at Farrar, Straus, Giroux (FSG). We're looking for an editorial assistant who will work closely with our President and Publisher on a range of administrative and editorial tasks. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational abilities, unusual attention to detail, experience working independently and collaboratively, exemplary written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for literature. Time management (of yourself and others), devotion to follow-through, and grace under pressure are essential.
What you'll do:
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of a high-volume, fast-paced president’s and publisher’s desk (including calendar management, administrative support, and clerical work—like notetaking, submissions and acquisitions tracking, making copies, and placing book orders)
- Design and maintain organizational systems, such as databases, paying particular attention to work-flow.
- Act as a liaison between the president’s office and other departments while meeting tight deadlines
- Confidently and gracefully correspond with authors, colleagues, and agents
- Read and evaluate manuscripts on submission

Ideal Experience/Education
- 0-1 years prior publishing experience preferred but not required
- Foreign language proficiency a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree
