Structural Steel Detailers play a key role in the success of the Company. They must follow company policies and work in harmony with co-workers and management to ensure the Company’s success. They perform the day-to-day activities required of them in the shop with the goal of meeting the production schedule set forth by the Detailing Manager, all while maintaining a safe working environment and staying within quality standards.
- Prepare structural steel models in SolidWorks, Inventor, and/or Tekla Structures software.
- Generate fabrication drawings and material lists from the models.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs
- Prepare erection drawings to be used by the steel erector on the construction site as to where and how to erect the fabricated steel members.
- Prepare shop drawings, also called detail drawings, to be used to guide the steel fabricator in making the steel members, including showing material sizes, dimensions, welding, bolting, painting requirements, and any other information required to describe each completed member.
- Comply with industry standards and protocols for detail drawings, such as those established by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Welding Society (AWS).
- Keep work area clean and orderly
- Three years experience with ideally Tekla experience or some type of 3-D modeling software Auto Cad inventor or Solidworks
- Understanding and familiarization with the AISC and AWS specifications.
- Excellent drafting, math, and spatial visualization skills.
- Extensive knowledge of CAD/Tekla software and other drafting tools.
- Honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to succeed.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to create and maintain cooperative team building relationships.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
Physical Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing during course of employment.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of construction sites & shop floor.
- Acceptable visual acuity, either corrected or uncorrected.

Between our Blasting Facility and our AISC Certified Paint booth, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more qualified setup. JPW’s Fab Shop is full of state of the art techniques and equipment, with skilled employees putting it all to use daily. Our bays are all equipped with 2 10-ton overhead cranes to provide us with the capability to tackle even the largest jobs. Our facility also includes an in-house detailing department utilizing the most up to date and innovative software available, giving JPW the edge when it comes to complex projects.

- Miscellaneous Steel Design and Fabrication, Load testing (ie. Stairs, Ladders, Lifting fixtures, Spreader beams, Pusher Snow plows, buckets, blade fixtures)
- Plate Weldment Fabrications/ in house bending & rolling capabilities
- Press breaks up to 12’ long with 250 ton capacities
